Exoscale with Karpenter for granular Kubernetes autoscaling.
CI/CDCloudDevopsInfrastructure
Exoscale announces a major advancement for its Kubernetes Service (SKS): native integration with Karpenter. This feature allows Exoscale to become the only European provider to offer this level of automation, thus bridging the technological gap with American hyperscalers. Discover it at DevOps Rex 2025.
Next-generation autoscaling: "Serverless-like" for your clusters
While traditional solutions scale infrastructure via predefined node pools, Exoscale's integration of Karpenter radically changes the game in terms of responsiveness. This technology enables serverless-like scaling, capable of going from zero to a massive infrastructure in seconds.
In practice, Karpenter provisions nodes on the fly, whose size (CPU/RAM) corresponds strictly to the demand of the pods.
The result is immediate:
- Maximum performance: An instant response to peak loads, without the usual provisioning delays.
- Zero waste: Nodes are automatically deleted as soon as they become unnecessary, ensuring the fairest possible billing.
- Advanced support: Native compatibility with demanding workloads, including on GPU nodes.
An innovation built on an "Enterprise-Ready" foundation
This new feature did not come out of nowhere; it is based on the maturity of Exoscale SKS (Scalable Kubernetes Service), a platform recognized for its reliability since 2021.
By activating Karpenter, DevOps teams benefit from the full power of the existing Exoscale ecosystem:
- A dedicated Control Plane: Fully managed, it is available in less than 2 minutes.
- Security and Observability: The platform natively integrates SSO (via OpenID Connect) for access management and provides complete Audit Logs for flawless traceability.
- Total flexibility: The choice of CNI (Calico or Cilium) to adapt to network security strategies, and seamless integration of storage via a high-performance CSI driver.
- Compliance : A CNCF certification guaranteeing a standard Vanilla Kubernetes.
With the integration of Karpenter, we are addressing a critical demand from our clients: to obtain the extreme flexibility of American giants while maintaining data sovereignty in Europe. We are proving that a European player can offer a leading developer experience, combining historical robustness with cutting-edge innovation.
True to Exoscale's "DevOps Friendly" DNA, activation is designed to be simple and non-intrusive. A simple checkbox or a command line (
--enable-karpenter via CLI or Terraform) is sufficient to transform the behavior of the cluster. This feature is available now in public preview, with General Availability (GA) planned for January 2026.
